Afterthought on by-election 2012

WP 1st By-election Rally

@ WP Final By-election Rally with Uncle Ah Luck & Auntie :)

On 19th May 2012: I witnessed Uncle Ah Luck selling the Hougang Special By-election newsletters in a very enthusiastic fashion. So I asked Ah Luck whether he needed to have a sip of water. He replied he was fine.

After that he said, we were doing was for a better future. He said, "... it is for you young ones who have many years ahead. I am old..."
...
"You are important too!" said I.

It was a pleasure to serve with the volunteers at the merchandise booth. Thank you. :)

Before By-election result
WP supporters were cheering!

Then we were all anxious about the result...

After the By-election result,
The crowd outside Block 322 Hougang Avenue 5 coffee shop were rejoicing for WP!

The top picture depicts the crowd at WP By-election Rally in 2012,
while the one below is that of PAP Rally in 1959.

[Afterthought]
While I was at the WP rallies, it did cross my mind how the PAP rallies were like in the past.
As I rejoiced, I also thought about how our forefathers rejoiced back then.

[Reflection]
Firstly, I must declare that I did not study Singapore history in detail
and do not know much about my own country.
However, since General Elections 2011,
I have become more interested about politics in Singapore.
Growing up, I experienced a lot more problems than I have ever known.
I now have a lot more responsibilities than 5 years ago.
I want to be able to provide for my family and
hope for my parents to retire in a couple of years.

I begin to realise that there are flaws in our government.

However, I have to add that I am contented to be where I am,
in Singapore, with my loved ones.
That may not have been possible without PAP.
(since history is irreversible)

Nat had been educating me a lot on the history of Singapore
and it helped me understood why we are in our current situation.
History has taught me to be humble, unbias and open to stories others have to tell.

While we may be unhappy about many aspects of our lives,
which have affected us directly or indirectly.
I urge all of us, Singaporeans, to be hopeful.
The vote of trust given to WP by Aljunied and recently, Hougang residents
is a step towards a First World Parliament!

Having said that,
I also hope for other opposition parties which are ready
and have the selfless mentality to serve Singaporeans will
continue their good work.

It is never about wining, it is also not about self-glorification.
It is certainly not just about beating other parties in the General Elections.
It is about wanting to serve your fellow Singaporeans.

Man cannot live on hope alone, but it certainly helps.
Young people cannot just play play play all the time. The time between adolescence and adulthood has been shortened down drastically over the decades.
Singaporeans must rise up and challenge the status quo and bring Singapore more forward.
We cannot be children all the time, being told what to do. We must tell what we dream of, how we want to shape Singapore, and TOGETHER (not just being passengers) drive forward into the future.
The Lees will die, the Ongs will go, the Teos too.
What remains is YOU.

Personal Perspective on CHC Fiasco

My personal perspective on the City Harvest Church fiasco: #1. God is omnipresent (present everywhere), omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all knowing) and God knew about this episode. I believe God is watching.; #2. The CAD does not charge without concrete evidence (they have taken sufficient time to investigate - 2 years). May justice prevail.; #3. It is unavoidable for members of the public with little information about Christianity to judge.  It is also one of my weaknesses to be quick to judge/form negative impression about others, which is unhealthy.; #4. I believe to a certain extent, the message of giving and tithing is relatively strong in City Harvest Church - I may be wrong.  (fyi, I have visited the church a couple of times) My personal belief is that it is important to give to God because God is the creator of everything that exists. He owns everything and we are simply stewards of what we have been entrusted with.  Though I h...

Invitation to Happy's Birthday Party

Invitation to Happy's Birthday Party! Today, how's your 2nd day of the Chinese Lunar New Year? Hope it has been fun! I'm having a good time... Will be heading out for Valentine's Day the movie. Had abundance of quality time with my bestie yesterday for Valentine's Day cum 1st day of the Tiger Year. Photos will be up on this blog soon. You'll see lots of beautifully taken pictures plus POLAROIDS! Yays! ~ I really really thank God for my bestie! It seems that she's able to understand me pretty well emotionally. I've came to realise that not all whom I disclose my feelings to will be able to understand what I need. Yeah, it might sound demanding somewhat. That's what separates Best Friend from others I suppose. ~ Been thinking more frequently about the past lately. Uncertain why it did not affect me subconsciously. However, I do have to admit the past was lovely and somehow it lingers... ~ Take care all! Stay in good shape! :p Pam Petite
