19th June 2011: Found a new area I like to chillax @ Arab Street.  Spent some time catching up with my former colleague.  After terminating my service to my former employer, to once again meet up is an indication that this colleague can be more than just an office colleague, a friend.   Tennessee Williams once said that, "life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose."  I always believe that friendships are very important and the close friends you choose to keep in your inner circle is paramount to your personal growth and development.  I do try my best to be of good company, influence and support to my close ones.    When an individual makes a statement such as, "I have friends from different walks of life", I believe this person is someone who hardly discriminates or put aside his/her inner biasness.  Having typed-written above, though I am someone who selects friends, I would like to add that I also attempt to make friend

Why Materialistic?

"I want a gold-plated toilet seat, honey!" "Do you need toilet paper made of money?"   After reading S'pore girls are materialistic: SMU Study , I have to agree with the content to a certain extent. Though I am not saying that it is representative of all girls in Singapore. There are many reasons as to why girls in Singapore are being or becoming more materialistic (in other words, choosing "a man's social status as the top criterion.") The following are issues I have personally identified:- #1: Capability - "If I can afford so many things on my own, why do I need a man who is less competent than me who can’t even buy me a Louis Vuitton wallet?" says the pro-feminist or feminist; #2: "Security" - If one day she decides to be a homemaker/(tai tai), her man would be able to provide for the family or if one day she decides that she cannot remained "bound" to her man by marriage, he could afford to compensate her a

How Happy Your Grandma Was

How Happy Your Grandma Was I have decided to start penning down the things that I enjoy doing. This will be the list I will revisit frequently. Hopefully when I grow old, while reading and reflecting on each joyous and memorable occasion, I’ll smile and thank God for this wonderful life. And even maybe I will pass this list to my children/ (grandchildren) and read one of the items listed every night to my children/ (grandchildren) after the bedtime story. Inspiration of title is influenced by the TV comedy, “How I Met Your Mother”. (Listing since 9th June 2011) 1. Watching television with my family while sipping homemade herbal tea. (8th June 2011)

To be, or not to be: that is the question.

Hi all, Pleasant day! This morning as I was reading this online article: Not all grassroots members are disgusting  reminded me of some things I encountered.  As I have mentioned before, I have wanted to volunteer for Tampines Grove Resident's Committee and I have only attended a meeting as an observer last year.  My initial thought of volunteering is to understand if there is anything I can do about the housing issue that my family is plague with, as well as contributing to the community.  Perhaps the core motivation is for the sake of my family, as one would refer me as mentioned in point 3 of linked article, the hypocrite who wants to gain something in return. [ The personal advantage: These people join grassroots for the perks.]  Frankly, my experience at the meeting was a neutral one.  I am certain that a lot of people among us, think for the future and prepare for the rainy day, that is what exactly I was trying to do. When my parents finally become aware of our housing i

Jellies are kinda like human?

Jellyfish to us is sea creature that stings. Most of us do not know that jellies in actuality have brains, eyes and spinal cords. Read this article to find out more: Much more to Jellyfish than Plasma and Poison

Cats and the need to save them in Singapore

After reading Mr Khaw Boon Wan's initative on: Saving Cats , I feel a little more hope as a cat lover. I have been waiting for a minister who would look into this matter since year 2009 after attending the Singapore Animal Welfare Symposium. (sent an email once to Minister Masagoes Zulkifli about 2 years ago...)  This, in my opinion, is being at least compassionate and registering the need for animals, such as cats to co-exist in our society. With Mr. Khaw Boon Wan taking a step forward, I hope he will follow through and make sure that the end result is desirable for the welfare of cats in Singapore. Pam Petite
